Kruger Safari -- Day 3

Day 3 was much more productive, both wildlife-wise, and photo-wise. The high point was probably the mother hyena that approached the truck. When animals here feel threatened, they don't threaten and display. They go for your throat. Fortunately, the baby ran into the bushes, and the mother after it.

Home

My buddy, the chameleon, was hanging out exactly in the same place, but being more photogenic!

Beautiful -- too bad they're just meaner than snot. Don't believe 'Stripes'.

This female hyena approached the van deliberately -- made me realize I wasn't in Kansas. The guide went for the gun...

But she was so pretty....

And then we found out why -- she trotted off into the underbrush

Lots of wildebeest everywhere you look. It reminds you that abundance, not diversity, is also a key component of wildness

Some type of marsh eagle on the wing

I have no idea

These were relatively low-conflict hippos. Not all hippos feel this way about people. We still kept our distance from the shoreline. I did not want to be chased/killed by a hippo.

Elephants were everywhere -- they are very smart, and as long as you're at the lodge, they come and go and do not bother you. That's your place. Step out of your place, though...

A Scop's Owl -- apparently, relatively are. This one was just beautiful.

Another view -- Scop's Owls eat insects. They almost look like a nighthawk with ears.

A female Cape Buffalo. She really does look feminine!

This old bull would be happy to stomp any human into the ground. No questions asked.
